Her Beauty...captivating...Her Candor...insightful...
Her Elegance...Regal... Her Love...unconditional...
Her Passion...inspirational...Her Strength...irrefutable
Zelma Eden Moffett was born on August 20, 1934 to Ada Jackson and
Woodard Eden, in Shreveport, LA. She relocated to Natchitoches after returning from Titusville,
FL. She attended and graduated in 1951 from LNC (Lincoln Institute/Natchitoches Parish
Training School/Central High School). From there she attended Grambling State University and
graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Education degree, in 1955.
She met and married the late Steve Moffett of Natchitoches, LA, where they completed their
union of 48 years with two sons, Henry B. Moffett, and Dr. Glenn W. Moffett, PhD.
Mrs. Moffett was a pioneer in integrating Northwestern State University as one of the first
African-American students to receive her Master's Degree. She served the Natchitoches Public
School System beginning in 1965 as the first African-American Guidance Counselor in
Natchitoches Parish at Natchitoches Central High School. She served as Principal of the
Natchitoches Parish Learning Laboratory until her retirement.

This memorable and very well-known lady was a member of the First Baptist Church on Amulet Street.

Leading into her retirement, Mrs. Moffett pursued her Louisiana State Real Estate License
becoming the first African-American Real Estate Agent in the Natchitoches Community.
After her retirement from the Natchitoches Public School System, she, along with her sons,
established Moffett Enterprises, Inc. in 1989. Her entrepreneurship provided nearly four
decades in the Convenience Store Business which expanded into several other companies. As
a result, she was influential in her family's ability to develop their own entrepreneurial horizons.
In 1986, Zelma Moffett was initiated into the Delta Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She was a charter member of Rho Beta Omega Chapter in
Natchitoches, Louisiana, where she remained active for over 37 years.
Her Legacy...lives on
