unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

Romans 14:8

Deacon William Latin Maxie, Jr., was born July 8, 1942 in the
Devil's Branch Community of Sabine Parish, Louisiana. He was the
eldest child of Latin and Irene Maxie. He transitioned to his
heavenly home on Saturday March 5, 2023 at Sabine Retirement
and Rehabilitation Center. William was baptized at Pilgrim Star
Baptist Church under Reverend A. L. Garner's leadership at an
early age.
William went on to graduate from Sabine High School in 1961
and entered Grambling State University on a band scholarship
playing the saxophone for the GSU Tigers. He left Grambling to
serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1963. After
serving, he returned to college where he re-enrolled in GSU and
found his first love, mathematics. After many career choices, he
went to Dallas, TX and landed a job at Jarell's Clothing Company as
a personnel director and worked there until 1980. He returned to
Louisiana and married his sweetheart, Sally, Aug 8, 1980 and
welcomed their son, Whitney in 1981. William became an educator
at Florien High School serving as a math instructor, and later
received his master's degree from Northwestern State University
in Administrative Leadership. With this degree he was appointed
principal of Florien Elementary School in 1999.
In addition to these years of serving in education, he united
with Bright Star Baptist Church and served as a deacon, Sunday
school teacher, financial officer, and helped wherever needed.
Before returning to Louisiana, he was a member of Morning Star
Baptist Church and sang in the male chorus. Some of his favorite
past times were gardening, fishing, playing computer games,
cooking greens and barbecue, and baking yummy tea cakes.
He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, and
brothers James R. Holmes, and Riece Maxie. He leaves to cherish
his memory, his wife, Sally Maxie; son, Whitney Maxie (Renita),
and daughter Sonya Sweet-Wilson; grandchildren, Cherish Simon
(Mikaylan), Shari Wilson, Taylor Gasaway, Payton Wolfe; siblings,
Roy Maxie (Robinetta), Kenneth Maxie, Louise McConnell, Lou Jean
Puckett (Melvin); In-laws, Walter Williams, Sr. (Annie R), Suliaman
Beyah, Isaac Williams, Sr. Birdia Mims; and a host of cousins,
nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
We were truly blessed for having known such a talented,
influential, and godly man who touched the lives of many.
