The life and legacy of Bro. Samuel L. Beasley, Sr. will be celebrated at the Zwolle High School Auditorium (649 Championship Drive, Zwolle, LA 71486), Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11:00 a. m. with burial following in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Zwolle, LA. The first of two public visitations will be convened at the Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 318 North Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana 71457 on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 4:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. with masonic ceremonies beginning at 7:00 p. m. Final visitation will be on Saturday morning at the Zwolle High School from 8:30 a. m. to 10:30 a. m. under the direction of Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home. Repast following the burial will be at the Zwolle High School Cafeteria.
The service-filled and productive life of Mr. Samuel L. Beasley, Sr. transitioned from this earthly realm to a higher plain Sunday, March 10, 2013. He was born May 28, 1939 in the Natchitoches Parish settlement of Flora, Louisiana to the union of the late Mr. Jeff Beasley and Mrs. Louvenia Alberta Williams Beasley as the youngest of four children which blessed this marriage. From his father's first marriage which ended in his wife's death, four other siblings were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother as well as one great grandson.
His conversion to Christianity occurred when he was a young person and his lifelong choice of serving God was the Macedonia Baptist Church of Zwolle where he was a committed member until called to his eternal place of rest. Within this church family he served as former Chairman of the Board of Deacons. Brother Beasley's progressive spirit resulted in his playing a pivotal role in the construction of Macedonia's current edifice.
Education was another important element of Brother Beasley's life. His education during the formative years was accomplished in the public schools of Sabine Parish. His thirst for advanced formal training led him to Grambling State University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Always seeking to improve his station in life and those around him, he continued on an educational journey which brought him to receiving the Master's Degree and the Thirty Hours beyond that credential. On the graduate level he studied at Northwestern State University of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Lamar University of Beaumont, Texas and Prairie View A &M University of Prairie View, Texas.
He was married to the love of his life, the former Ms. Nettie Pearl Holley, and their matrimonial union was blessed with three sons and one daughter, Rhonda, Twins Stanford, Sr. and Samuel, Jr., and Jeffrey.
In the year of 1962, Brother Beasley was raised into the Golden Light Lodge #199 under his father, the late Mr. Jeff Beasley, and has remained an active member of the Prince Hall Family until his demise. He holds the distinction within the realm of the Prince Hall Masonic Family of being the Past Master, District Deputy Grand Master Emeritus for the Ninth Masonic District and at his passing was serving as Grand Trustee of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Louisiana and its Jurisdiction. Other distinctions but not limited to are Honorary Past Grand High Priest, Honorary Past Grand Commander and received the rank of Grand Inspector General of the thirty-third and last Degree. He supported his better half's auxiliary which is the Order of Eastern Star and Goodwill Chapter #128 also in Zwolle, LA where he served as the Worthy Patron until his death. He also worked with our ladies and served as the Most Worthy Joshua of Cockrell-Williams Court #42. Noble Beasley was also a member of Abduhl Temple #94, A. E. A. O. N. M. S. His affiliation includes a lifetime membership in the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and life member in the Phylaxis Society.
Being committed to the service of his fellow citizens, Mr. Beasley was a two-term Councilman for the Town of Zwolle and was instrumental in major updating of public works for the Town of Zwolle.
His professional pursuits were in the field of Education. Therein, he was employed as a classroom instructor, coach of baseball, basketball and track and ultimately became the Supervisor of Adult Education for Sabine Parish School Board. In addition, he was an auxiliary Deputy for the Sabine Parish and then later became an Instructor of Adult Education at the Sabine Parish Detention Center.
In what spare time he could find in his schedule, Mr. Beasley was an avid fisherman and could often be found on the lake doing what he liked best!
Those who will forever cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Mrs. Nettie Beasley, Mrs. Rhonda Harrison of Pineville, LA, Stanford Beasley, Sr. (Melba) of Canton, MS., Mr. Samuel Beasley, Jr. (Andrea) of Shreveport, LA and Mr. Jeffrey Beasley (Keisha) of Zwolle, LA/Houston, TX; a nephew for whom Brother Beasley was a father and mentor, Mr. Charles Beasley (Linda) of Zwolle, LA; eight grandchildren, Samuel L. Beasley,III, Tatiana Harrison, Jenifer Beasley, Stanford H. Beasley, Jr., Nicholas Beasley, Christian Beasley, Javione Murphy-Jones, and Caitlyn Beasley, two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Williams of Houston, TX and Mrs. Estelle Kerr of Houston, TX, Special cousin Harrel Jones of Many, Louisiana, Freddie Travers and Clarence Travers, both of Shreveport, Louisiana, and a host of nieces, nephews,especially close cousins of Natchitoches, LA Mrs. Sarah LaCaze, Ms. Elsie Huey and Mrs. Elsena LaCaze other relatives, former students and friends.
