Sammie Vean Brimzy Leon was born to the union of the late Mrs Kate Lee Anderson and Mr Elam Brimzy July 20th, 1932 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Native of Powhatan, Louisiana she was raised by her grandmother Lola Johnson while her parents lovingly pursued the potential of the Great Migration in Chicago and Houston. Marmee, as her family and friends affectionately and honorably knew her, was the only child born to her parents and destined to become a woman of style, grace, and purpose.
As a young girl she was baptized and a member of St John Baptist Church in Powhatan, Louisiana, and after marriage became a member of Asbury Methodist Church. She graduated from Natchitoches Parish Training School in 1949 where she met her husband, Rudolph Leon Jr. They were married on March 8th, 1953 and united 48 years. Their union was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Jacqueline Antoinette and Debbie Denise.
She began her Education career in 1955 after graduating from Grambling State University and completing Continuing Education Studies at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. She dedicated her next 25 years to service in the Natchitoches Parish School System where she touched the lives of countless young people and their families. After a blessed early retirement, she settled into Grandmother life of 5, where her strength and joy was planted firmly.
On Monday, October 2nd, 2023, Marmee slipped from the restricted bounds of time into the boundless realms of eternity. Although the beloved Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Family member, & Friend has left this plane, she has journeyed home to be with the Lord. She will be profoundly missed by family and those who knew and loved her. You could count on her when you needed her most. Her cooking was phenomenal. Her advice was always firm yet fair and she supported those she loved 110% with encouragement that could always reignite. We will cherish the memories and are grateful for the wonderful gift of her life. We loved her dearly but God loved her more. We thank him for sharing her with us for 91 years. --Rest easy our Dearest Marmee, until we see you again.
