Rufus Carl Gibson entered this world on September 28, 1954, born to the late John and Everlean Gibson, who preceded him in death. As the third son, he grew up in a household filled with brotherly camaraderie. From an early age, Rufus found spiritual guidance at Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. On July 5, 2024, Rufus peacefully departed this life, answering the call to his eternal rest.
He joined his loved ones who had gone before him, embraced by the divine presence he had faithfully served throughout his years.
His educational journey began at Pinecrest and continued at Winnfield Senior High School, from which he graduated in 1972. Pursuing higher education, Rufus attended Texas Southern University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering. Rufus' professional career led him to General Electric in Shreveport, Louisiana, before transferring to Erie, Pennsylvania, where he contributed his expertise for
several years. Answering the call to serve his country, Rufus enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly wore the uniform for four years, receiving an honorable discharge in September 1982. Rufus contributed to education by serving as a substitute teacher for several
years at multiple schools throughout Winn Parish, positively influencing students' lives. Throughout his life, Rufus' profound love for his family and enthusiasm for living were evident to everyone who knew him. He was known for his exceptional generosity, often willing to give the shirt off his back to help others, even while facing his psychological conditions. Despite these challenges, Rufus remained very kind-hearted, touching the lives of many with his compassion and warmth.
His legacy continues through his surviving family members: brothers Eddie Sr. (widowed, late wife Rosie) and John Ray (Annie Ruth); nieces LaShonda (Travis), Felicia (Charles), and Karissa; nephews Eddie Jr., Tra (Crystal), and Tommy. He is also survived by six great-nephews, four great-nieces, and numerous cousins. Rufus' kindness and affection left an indelible mark on countless lives. His enduring legacy will be forever cherished by family and friends alike, a testament to the impact of his warm and loving nature.
