Obituary
Of
Mr. Robert Earl Love
July 25, 1951 in Watson, Arkansas was a very special date in the life of the late Ms. Ida Jones Bradley for it marked the birth of her son, Robert Earl Love. He was baptized at an early age in the Jerusalem Baptist Church (formerly known as the Backgate Baptist Church) in Watson, Arkansas. His mother always wanted the very best for this energetic and talented young man. She made the decision to allow his maternal grandparents, Queen Jones Rainy Spinks, and his grandfather, Clayton, to care for him and raise their grandson.
Grandmother Queen raised him to become a God-loving and honest man. Robert would often speak of his church experience with the Backgate Baptist Church of Watson, Arkansas. Jokingly, he would talk about her daily visits there and his having to go along with her. He sometimes remarked "I spent a lifetime in church". This pattern continued until the family moved to Dumas, Arkansas. Robert sometimes would say of his religious rearing, "If I never step my foot in another church again, God would be just right with me."
This extraordinary young man always showed a scholarly gift. It showed up in his graduating from Dumas High School of Dumas, Arkansas with honors. His academic skill again became apparent when he earned his Bachelor's Degree with honors from the University of Arkansas with a major in Mathematics and Accounting.
While attending college, Robert joined the United States Army from which he was given an honorable discharge. He continued his distinguished military career in the United States Coast Guard and the National Guard where he completed tours of duty and was again the recipient of honors.
Upon discharge from the Military, he relocated to Michigan where his mother, Ida, and extended family members were living.
His impressive application led to his being hired by Consumer Power Energy of Saginaw, Michigan. He held the position of Senior Accountant with that firm for thirty-five years until his retirement in September of 2012. Upon retiring he and joined his wife, Shirley, in Louisiana to care for her parents. He did so without complaining. He was known for his helping others.
He had a passion for gardening as well and grew some of the most beautiful roses. This unforgettable man loved golfing and bowling. Everything that he did, he gave 100% push. He was a quiet man of great wisdom.
Robert Earl Love is survived by his dedicated wife, Shirley Brooks Love. Their courtship began in 1981 and they were married in August of 1986. Later a miracle was born to them, their son, Robert Mister Perry Love who lives in Jackson, Michigan. He loved his son, Robert Mister, with all of his heart.
Although Alisha's mom was my sister, she lived in the home with us and he loved her as his daughter. She addressed him as "Dad Do" at an early age. He loved his nieces and nephews as a Father. He always had time to share wisdom and teach a skill to his and my sister's children.
Robert will join in peaceful rest with his mother, Ida Jones Bradley and his maternal grandparents, Clayton Spinks and Queen Jones Rainey Spinks; a sister, Shirley Tillman, two brothers, Haywood Bradley, Jr. and Nathan Bradley, Uncle William Jones, Uncle John Jones, Uncle Curtis Jones, and Aunt Alice Goodman.
Those who survive him and will forever cherish his memory are his loving wife, Shirley Brooks Jones of Natchitoches, LA, one son and Robert Mister Perry Love of Jackson, MI.
Robert loved his entire family: sister, Patricia Jones, Aletha Faye (Billy), Bonnie Bradley; brothers, Jeffery Bradley and James Bradley both of Saginaw, MI, ; Uncle Dave Rainey of Dumas, AR, Aunts: Doris Clayton of Montrose, MI, , Augusta Presley of Ben Harbor, MI and Betty Scott (Winston) of Ben Harbor, MI, Aunt-in-law, Edith Brooks of Saginaw, MI.
Father and mother-in-law, Nathaniel Manning Houston Brooks and Margaret Mallard Burns Keegan Wolfe Brooks of Natchitoches, LA.
