Mr. Sarpy passed away in his Natchitoches residence July 20, 2015 in the presence of his loving family.
Phillip Sarpy was born in the Melrose, Louisiana community of Natchitoches Parish January 2, 1933 to the late Jordan Sarpy, Sr. and Celine LaBom Sarpy. He was one of eleven siblings which formed his loving family.
Being reared in a home of devout Catholics, Phillip was affiliated with the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Isle Brevelle, from his childhood and remained a faithful Catholic all of his life. Upon his relocation to Chicago, he became a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church and was a member in good standing with the Holy Name Society.
Phillip will long be remembered as a hardworking, loving, family man and a true friend to many. Although he was a "Country Boy," he set out on a mission to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge upon the termination of his tour of duty.
Following his stint in the armed forces, Phillip moved to Chicago with his bride by his side and his mind focused on aspiring dreams for his family. He became employed as a Butcher in Chicago for the Swift Company from which he retired. He then returned to the country living in Natchitoches. Even during his retirement years this industrious gentleman took on a second career with local Con-Agra Poultry Company and remained there for fifteen years until his second retirement. This full time retirement allowed him to embrace his hobbies: hunting, fishing, gardening, raising chickens and pigs. After the death of his first wife, he found love again and married Mrs. Rosa Llorens Sarpy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and mother of his children, Mrs. Betty Balthazar Sarpy, one son, Mr. Michael Sarpy, five brothers: Octave, Clemo, Jordan, Jr., John and James Sarpy; four sisters, Odile S. Roque, Victorine Sarpy, Celene S. Coutee and Betty S. Metoyer.
Among those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Rosa L. Sarpy; four children: Judy S. Metoyer (Martin Metoyer), Gregory G. Sarpy (Brenda Sarpy), Craig J. Sarpy (Shelly Sarpy), and Renard L. Sarpy (Monique Sarpy), two Godchildren: Todd Roque and Josephine Roque; twelve grand-children, four great grand-children and two great grand-children on the way, one brother, Clyde Sarpy of Topeka, Kansas, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
