Funeral Services will be celebrated Saturday, July 19, 2014, 2:00 p. m. at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Bermuda, LA with burial in the church's cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church for public visitation from 1:30 p. m. until service time on Saturday.
Deacon Orie Petite was born April 14, 1938 in Bermuda, LA as the oldest sibling to the parentage of the late Mr. Washington Petite and Mrs. Beatrice Howard Williams. Deacon Petite was reared in an atmosphere of nurturing love and Christian example by his grandparents, the late Mr. Fred Douglass Howard and Mrs. Gustana Forest Howard.
Almighty God, called him from labor to reward July 10, 2014 while a patient at the Minden Medical Center in Minden, Louisiana.
This quiet gentleman of intense resolve received his education during the formative year at the St. Paul Baptist Church School and later was awarded a High School Diploma from the St. Matthew High School in Melrose, LA. His God-given skills in working with his hands lead to his becoming a First Class Butcher and a skilled craftsman and administrator in the construction and cabinet-making arena. He even held the unique distinction of being Manager of the Winnfield Casket Factory in Natchitoches for a number of years under the leadership of the late Ben D. Johnson.
This accomplished professional retired from the City of Natchitoches following more than thirty years of service as a Superintendent in the maintenance and construction areas. He was highly regarded throughout the region as a Master Builder, a field of endeavor for which he had been gifted by The Almighty Architect of the Universe. Testimony to his undisputed ability can be witnessed to by businesses, residences and edifices of worship that he helped to construct throughout the Natchitoches Parish community. His milestones of great achievement will be utilized and admired by generations to come!
His love and admiration for the former Miss Mattie Ruth Walker led to his marrying her September 1, 1963, a union blessed by one daughter, Kimberly Ann Petite Senu.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, one grandson, Godwin Kwame Senu, II (Lil Kaygee), two brothers and four sisters.
Deacon Petite leaves to mourn his loving wife of 51 years, Mattie Ruth Petite, one daughter, Kimberly Ann Senu and her husband, Godwin Kwame Senu, that he loved as a son; twin grandsons, Setristian Kwesi Senu and Sebastian Kwesi Senu; eight sisters, Mrs. Victoria Pye (Buford), Mrs. Betty Walker, Mrs. Dorothy Campbell (Gregg), Mrs. Bennie Beard, Ms. Brenda Robinson, Ms. Wanda Robinson, Ms. Annie Robinson and Mrs. Rosetta Anderson (Rev. Stacy); five brothers: Mr. Raybon Williams, Mr. Clyde Williams, Sr., Mr. Lee Earl Howard (Linda), Mr. Eugene Williams (Jessie Mae) and Mr. Jarvis Robinson; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Hopkins of Belcher, LA; four Godchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
