Services will be celebrated Saturday, June 20, 2015; 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church on Amulet. A wake service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be held in the Lawrence Serenity Sanctum.
Gifted with a spiritual and melodious voice by God, Mrs. Ollie Mae Williams Hooper will long be remembered for sharing her musical ability in unwavering dedication to the work of kingdom-building. This sought after Musical Missionary utilized her natural talent with the worship service in her own church family and beyond, in civic celebrations and as a soloist for so many homegoing services. In later years, the Lord revealed an expansion of her Music Ministry—the ability to accompany church choirs on the piano. This led to her becoming a musician for Rock Island Baptist Church, St. Luke Baptist Church, Greenville Baptist Church, Rockford Baptist Church, St. Savior Baptist Church (Cane River), Goodwill Baptist Church and her home church, First Baptist on Amulet Street as well as in other congregations.
This far-reaching servant of God was born October 4, 1932 in the St. Maurice, LA community to the parentage of the late Mr. Daniel Williams, Sr. and Mrs. Eva Zeno Williams as the sixth of eleven children. God, in His divine providence, directed her rearing to the hands and hearts of her uncle and aunt, the late Mr. Todd Cross and Mrs. Everlena Cross who provided a loving and nurturing environment throughout her formative years.
A home eternal being firmly planted in her spirit during childhood led her to publicly confess her belief in Jesus Christ as a risen Savior, becoming baptized and then uniting with the First Baptist Church on Amulet Street under the spiritual guidance of the late Pastor A. M. Brown. Within that congregation she worshipped regularly, reared her children in the admonition of the God that she loved, became a soloist in the Senior Choir and gave liberally of her time, talent and resources for the advancing of the Christian cause on earth. Her abiding faith in God would sustain her until she answered His ultimate call to reside in the Upper Room on June 10, 2015 while in the compassionate care of her eldest child, Sister Beverly H. Rachal.
Even in receiving the sacrament of marriage was Sister Hooper given God's favor for she was united in Holy Matrimony to a loving and providing gentleman, the late Mr. Fate Hooper, Jr., with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. This union was blessed with five children.
Mrs. Hooper received her formal education in the Natchitoches Parish Public School System during her childhood and early adult life. Continuously thirsting for deeper spiritual knowledge, she earned a Degree in Divinity from the United Theological Seminary of Monroe, LA in the ensuing years.
Constantly seeking positive community involvement, she became a long-time member of the W. L. Carroll Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation.
Preceding her in death were her natural parents, the surrogate parents who reared her, her husband and her natural siblings: four brothers, Roy B. Williams. Louis B. Williams, Herman Williams and Clarence Williams; three sisters, Willie Lee Williams, Mary Miles and Emma Lee Manning; surrogate siblings Nelcena Odums, Elneza Robinson, Lillie Mae Ward, Luella Prescott and Wilsie Dell Jackson.
Her spirit will live on in those who survive her: five children – Mrs. Beverly H. Rachal (Leon) of Natchitoches, LA, Mr. Gregory Hooper (Felicia) of Dallas, TX, Mrs. Carla Carabello of Plainsfield, N. J., Mr. Broderick Hooper of Shreveport, LA and Mr. Jerald Hooper, Sr. (Katherine) of Natchitoches, LA; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; her natural siblings: one brother, Mr. Huey P. Williams (Augusta) of Natchitoches, LA; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Silvey of Natchitoches, LA and Mrs. Erma Lee Williams (Jessie) of Natchitoches, LA; her surrogate siblings Alvord Cross (Elizabeth) of Houston, TX and O'Neal Cross (Joyce) of Atlanta, GA; a spiritual son, the Rev. Robert E. Jackson, Jr. (Catherine) of Lena, LA along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
