The life and legacy of Mr. Odrie Lee Turner will be celebrated at the Natchitoches Event Center Saturday, September 15, 2012, 11:00 a. m. The body will lie in state at the Center from 10:00 to 10:50 a. m. Burial will follow the funeral services in the St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery, Bermuda La. The family will receive friends at a wake service on the preceding Friday evening from 6:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. at the Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Turner was born to the parentage of the late Rev. Paul W. Turner and Mrs. Lee Ethel Johnson Turner September 14, 1942 in the Bermuda, La. community as the twin to surviving Mr. Ocie Turner. The twins were the fifth and six born of nine siblings.
His education was attained at the hands of the instructors of the Natchitoches Parish Public School System and he completed his high school studies at St. Matthew High School in the Class of 1960.
Having been reared in a home where Christian values were taught and exemplified, Brother Odrie Lee Turner, confessed Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized and then united with the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in 1954 under the spiritual guidance of the late Pastor Elder Gentry Davis, Sr.
Brother Turner was united in Holy Matrimony in 1962 to Mrs. Sarah Ann Tousaint Turner and this union was blessed with three sons, Randy Turner, Derick Turner, Sr. and Reginald Turner, Sr.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Paul W. Turner, and two sisters, Velma Lee Turner Johnson and Daisy Mae Turner.
Mr. Turner was a noted entrepreneur. Upon relocating to the Los Angeles, California Metroplex area in 1961 where he initially was a part of the Maintenance Team at the Naval Shipyard. In 1964 Mr. Turner and his twin brother, Mr. Ocie Turner, established a Mobil Service Station in that locale. He returned to his native home in 1971 and opened the Turner's Grocery on Dixie Street, a business that he owned and operated for more than four decades until his demise also, Mr. Turner was employed by the Natchitoches Parish School Board for 27 years as a Bus Driver
Those who will forever cherish his memory are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Tousaint Turner; four sons, Terry Forest (Linda) of DeSoto, TX., Randy Turner (Shelby) of Natchitoches, LA, Derick Turner, Sr. (Terral) of Natchitoches, Reginald Turner, Sr. (Margaretta) of Natchitoches, LA; one daughter, Shenessa Forest (Oscar) of Natchitoches, LA; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; six siblings, Abraham Turner of Compton, CA, Irma Chambers (George) of Los Angeles, CA, Paul Turner, Jr. (Rose) of Rialto, CA, Ocie Turner (Evelyn), Wilburt Turner (Sandy) of Natchitoches, LA and Dorothy Davis (Donald) of Goodyear, AZ; one uncle, Leon Johnson of Houston, TX; three aunts Elizabeth Gillie of Bermuda, Ruby Gillie of Houston, TX, and Mazie Hill of Inglewood, CA along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Repast will convened in the fellowship hall at the First B.C. on Amulet Street.
