Obituary

Sister Phillips was born January 8, 1939 in the Vowells Mill Community near Provencal, LA to the late Lawrence and Vilena Williams Smith. She was the baby girl in a family of eight siblings. God blessed to be the last of the siblings to cross over Jordan. He gently transported from her earthly journey to a place of eternal rest Thursday, May 21, 2026 in her Leesville residence.

Knowing there was a life after death she confessed Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church in the Vowells Mill Community at an early. After relocating to Leesville, LA and remaining for a period of time, she followed the rules of the Covenant and united with the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in that city. She remained in fellowship there until she exchanged time for eternity.

She became a graduate of Central High School in the Class of 1957 and she did further study in Cosmetology at the Central Area Trade School.

She met and married George Phillips and they were united in matrimony in the early 1960’s. This marital bond lasted until death did them part in 1982.

Sister Phillips worked at a variety of jobs in the Leesville community including restaurants, hospital and in private homes.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lawrence and Vilena Williams Smith, Eva, J. B., David, Loreece, Lola, Aljay and Earnest.

Surviving her are niece who was more like her own daughter, Cloretha Smith Gay(Cecil) of Natchitoches, LA and two spiritually adopted sons, Eddie Ray Smith of Leesville and Rodney Johnson of Bogalusa, LA; along with a host of other nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
