After a courageous battle with illness, Mary Prudhomme of Campti, La entered eternal rest peacefully from her earthly journey, Saturday August, 29, 2026. On August 29, 1947 heaven sent a beautiful bundle of joy to the proud parents, Joe N. Prudhomme and Beatrice Ealy Prudhomme of Campti, La.

At an early age Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized by Rev. R.H. Barnum. She united with St. Peter Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her death under the leadership of Rev. Alford Williams, III. She was a faithful member and usher.

Mary’s academic journey began at Clarence Elementary School in Clarence, La, culminating in her graduating with honors from Campti-Creston High School in Campti, La. Transitioning directly into the workforce, upon graduation to begin a new role at Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant in Minden , La, where she and a beloved friend, Easter Prelow, commuted daily.

In 1978 she obtained an Associate’s degree in Child Development and in 1989 she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern State university in Natchitoches, La. She graduated with a 4.0 grade point average.

Her professional career includes a total of 31 years as a teacher, mentor, and center supervisor for Natchitoches Parish Police Jury Headstart Program and Natchitoches Parish School Board in Natchitoches, La. Her 31-year legacy is written in minds she shaped and the lives she changed. Balancing a dual career, Mary successfully maintained a full time teaching position while concurrently dedicating twenty eight years of loyal and exceptional service at Wal-Mart Supercenter in Natchitoches, La.

Mary held membership in: Louisiana Headstart Association, Regional VI Headstart Association, Louisiana Early Childhood Association, National Association for the Education of Young Children, National Credential for Child Development Association and received a Department of Education Scholarship, Home Economics Scholarship and Who’s Who in American Education.

She will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God, generosity, warmth, kindness, gentle spirit, love and devotion for her family. Mary’s light will forever shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her light was quiet but steady and it reach farther than she ever knew.

Preceding her in transition of life are her parents; Joe N. Prudhomme and Beatrice Ealy-Prudhomme, three brother; Joe Prudhomme, Jr., Roosevelt Prudhomme (shortly after birth), and Larry Wayne Prudhomme, four sisters; Glenda Prudhomme, Gladys Prudhomme Joiner, Janie Holmes Snipes and Euradell Prudhomme Hamilton.

She leaves precious and loving memories to her son, Mario Prudhomme; daughter Shonnetta Prudhomme, two sisters; Darlee Prudhomme-Gans and Lessie Prudhomme-Williams, one brother; James Prudhomme, nine grandchildren; Da’Netta, Ryan, Amari’, A’Marion, and La’Shanti Prudhomme, Landon and JaCaria Holden, Areanna Moran, and Aaliyah Edmonson, eight great-grandchildren; Madison Johnson, Aaliyah, Ryan, Jr., Reagan, Ravyn, Jordan, and Prudhomme, Amelia and Elijah Newton, two sister in laws; Annie Jo Redding Prudhomme and Etta Fisher Prudhomme, lifelong best friend and classmate; Ella Trotter, coworker/best friend, Evonda Armstrong, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Mary’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives but her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. We still have so many memories of her, the one we love so much. Her memory is now our “keepsake” God has her in His keeping. We have her in our hearts. Sadly, missed but never forgotten!
