Service celebrating the life of Brother Sowell will be the first Saturday in the New Year, January 6, 2024, 1:00 p. m. in our chapel with interment following in Lawrence Serenity Sanctum.  The casketed remains will lie in state for public viewing from Noon until service time.

On December 26, 2023, Marcus James "MJ" Sowell, Jr. received his angel wings. Marcus was born on August 25, 2000 to Tirquessa Zeno and Marcus Sowell, Sr.

He graduated from Lakeview Sr. High School, Class of 2018. He was a star athlete/running back, football was his passion.

Marcus accepted Christ at an early age at New Birth Baptist Church in Natchez, La. He was family oriented, the life of the party, a protector, and he liked being in nature taking care of horses. He was a very loving father to his two handsome sons Marcus III and Kaiyre.

Preceding him in death were his great-grandparents; his uncle, Keith Zeno; his brother DeMarcus Sowell; and his nephew La' Marcus Jackson.

Mourning his death, but celebrating his life: his parents, Tirquessa Zeno of Houston, TX and Marcus Sowell of Natchitoches, LA; his two sons, Marcus "3J" Sowell III and Kaiyre Sowell both of Houston, TX; his two sisters, Tequanna "Tia" Zeno, Marquissa "Nae" Sowell, his brother, Avion Sowell all of Houston, TX; many half siblings; his significant other, Laquinta Slate of Houston, TX, his grandparents Deborah "Sassy" Zeno of Natchitoches, LA, James and Cynthia Morrow, Sr. of Natchitoches, LA.; his godparents, Zebedee and Monia Jackson of Natchitoches, LA; Cedric Edwards, and Doretha Moses; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
