Obituary
of
Mrs. Louella Blake Porter

Very well remembered for her elegance in speech, personal presentation of fashion and in the classroom where she was a Master Teacher, this beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend was truly a unique individual. She was born March 20, 1938 in Natchitoches, LA as the only girl and the second of three children to her parents, the late Mr. Clifford (Phil) Blake, Sr. and Mrs. Gerthana Bobb Blake. She exchanged time for eternity August 15, 2012 at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center.
Education was a thread that was woven throughout Mrs. Porter's life. She was an outstanding student during the formative years and graduated in the Central High School Class of 1956. Her thirst for knowledge led to her being awarded the Bachelor's Degree from Southern University, the Special Education Certification, Master's Degree as well as the thirty-plus credential from Northwestern State University. Securing higher education was not an abstract achievement for this unforgettable instructor of our times. She utilized her securing of knowledge to pass it on to her students in the illustrious classroom career for a period that spanned four decades. So concerned was she about educating children that preparation to teach the students with special needs was accomplished after her first retirement from the school system. One element of her philosophy of education was to ever remain active as an advocate for the student.
Realizing that man is a spiritual being, this stalwart citizen made Christ and His teachings a part of her daily life. She was converted to Christianity, baptized and united with the St. Paul Baptist Church in her youth. During her adult years she became a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in which she reared her children and to which she was connected until her demise.
Mrs. Porter was married to the late Mr. Wilbur Porter for many years and this union was blessed with three male children, Rene, Kelvin and Darius.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Wilbur Porter, a granddaughter, Tamokita, a brother, Mr. Marvin Blake, Sr. and a nephew, Mr. Clifton Blake, Sr.
Those who will forever cherish her memory are her three sons, Rene, Kelvin and Darius (Toby), and one daughter who she thought of as her own, Rozelia McHenry; seven grandchildren, Victoria Nash, Darisha Porter, Darion Porter, Mi'kal Porter, Laura Porter, Imri Davis and Iman Davis; one brother, Mr. Clifford Blake, Jr. (Jacqueline), best friend and loving companion of nearly thirty years, Vernon McClinton; one Godchild, Sandra Blake Williams, two sisters-in-law, Catherine Owens, Dorothy Lee Donaville (Alex) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, students and friends.
