Obituary
Mrs Loretta Britton-Washington (Nee Loretta Virginia Shannon) departed this life on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 10:30pm at her home in Natchitoches.
Mrs Britton was born to the late Jesse "Jake" and Daisy Yarborough Shannon on January 19, 1926 in Natchitoches, LA. Having been brought up in Asbury from early childhood, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Asbury M.E. Church in 1939 under the Pastorage of Rev. A.G. Spears.
She was united in marriage with the late John Wesley Britton, who preceded her in death after 31 years of marriage. Three children were born to this union. A son preceded them in death. In 1980, she was united in marriage to Luaurthur Washington.
Mrs Britton-Washington received her elementary and high school education at Natchitoches Parish Training School; B.S. Degree in English from Grambling College; Master of Education Degree in English at Louisiana State University; Master of Education Degree in Guidance and Counseling at Louisiana State University; further study at Northwestern State University.
She served as Teacher/Counselor at St. Matthew High School for eight years and at Campti High School for 12 years. She served as Chairperson of Asbury Commission on Missions; member of United Methodist Women, and a Communion Steward. She held membership in LTRA, NPEA, and AARP.
Survivors Include: Two daughters; Janet Britton Williams, of Huntsville AL, and Regina Michele Britton, of Dallas TX; four grandsons – Gerald Andre Williams and Gregory Bernard Williams of Huntsville AL; Antonio Jamall Britton and Adonnis Deijon Britton of Dallas TX; One great grandson Malachi Isaiah Britton of Mesquite TX; Five nieces, four nephews, and scores of great nieces and nephews; and stepchildren.
It is said that in the English vocabulary there are three words that are more solemn than all others. They are LIFE, DEATH, and ETERNITY. LIFE is more solemn than DEATH; to live is more serious than to die.
For some things, the human mind can find no answer; one is "THE WAY OF LIFE". All that we know is that we must meet each day as it comes with heads, that though they be bruised, are still unbowed.
