Our dearly beloved "Jo-Jo" lived in peace and then was blessed to depart this earthly life in a calm manner July 31, 2015 at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center surrounded by her caring family. This Christian young lady was a gift to her parents, the late Mr. Louis Chelette and Mrs. Mary Metoyer Chelette, on December 1, 1951 in Natchitoches, LA. She was the fruit of their union and was the third born of six siblings which formed their extremely close-knit family unit.
Josephine was reared in a home characterized by devotion to God and the practice of the Catholic faith. She was baptized as a child at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, later confirmed in the Catholic faith at that church parish and then became a loyal and dutiful member as an adolescent and as an adult along with holding membership in the Lady's Altar and Rosary Society.
St. Anthony Catholic School located in the shadow of the church's structure formed the setting for her grammar school education. She learned the basic academics and was taught Catechism under the watchful care of the nuns from the Convent of Divine Providence. This atmosphere was truly an extension of the morals that she was being taught in her home.
Josephine went on to Central High School following her grammar school studies and earned her High School Diploma from that institution with the Class of 1971.
Her easy-going personality and her unique humor coupled with her compassionate spirit laid the foundation for her becoming an excellent health care provider. This seemingly served as her life's mission as well as her career.
Her physical health declined in the latter years to the point that the best skilled care which she needed was given by the Courtyard Nursing Care Center of Natchitoches. She was a patient there for five years prior to her passing and was extraordinarily blessed to have been the patient of her sisters, Martha and Eunice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Louis Chelette ("Shorty") and Mrs. Mary Martina Metoyer Chelette and her son, Marcus Dewayne.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her family: two sons, Charles Chelette of Lufkin, TX and Brandon Chelette (Shelia Hudson) of Natchitoches, LA; one grandson Brandon Legend Chelette who survives and another grandchild who is soon to be born; four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Chelette Beaudion (Alcide Beaudion), Catherine Elie (Floyd Elie, Sr.-Deceased), Eunice Braxton (Edward Braxton, Sr.) and Martha Jean Smith (Thomas Smith) all of Natchitoches, LA; two brothers, James Frederick Chelette (Bubba) of Natchitoches, LA and Alfred Zeno (Benny Mae) of Missouri City, TX along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
