Obituary

Service arrangements for this long-time resident of the Breda Town Area are as follows: Wake at Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home Chapel Friday evening, September 9, 2016 from 6:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p. m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on 5th Street, Saturday morning, September 10, 2016 at 11:00 a. m. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday morning from 10:00 a. m. to service time. Burial with Military Honors will follow the mass at Lawrence Serenity Sanctum.

John Wesley Payne was born on December 14, 1929 in Faunsdale, Alabama to the late Governor Payne and the late Mary Lillie Brown Payne. He departed this earthly world on September 4, 2016 surrounded by his family.
John confessed Christ at an early age at Hope Hill Baptist Church in Alabama. He later converted to Catholicism, joining the parish of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church.
John proudly served his country as a Military Police Officer. He married the love of his life Doris "Dorothy" Jean Below on September 8, 1956. To this union seven children were born. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife Doris, one son Kenneth and a host of brothers and sisters.
He leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his memory, six sons: Jerry, Dannie, Larry (Betty), Patrick (Layle), Christopher (DeVel), Derrick, Sr. (Shantura) all of Natchitoches, LA.
Ten grandchildren: Damien (Natosha), Demarius, Demetrius, Dezmun (Diamond), Derrick, Jr., Brystian, Kyron, Patrick, Jr., DiQuan and Brailyn. Two great grandchildren Diaquri,II and Ayla.
One brother William Jackson (Charlene) of Cleveland, OH, one brother in law John Below (Florence) of Natchitoches, two sisters in law Luella Below of Houston, TX and Celestine Hardison of Natchitoches, LA and a host of godchildren, friends, cousins, nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.
