Mr. John Marshall Gay was born April 10, 1960 in Texas City, Texas to the blessed union of the late Mr. Edward Thomas Gay, Sr. and Mrs. Rosie Branch Gay as the youngest of seven siblings. He was awarded the High School Diploma by the Texas City High School in 1979. During his high school tenure he distinguished himself as a great musician on the trumpet, keyboard and bass. He will also be long remembered for being a noted soloist and a football star as a wide receiver. Being reared in a home where Christian values were greatly emphasized, John Gay, affectionately called "Pot" by family and close friends, was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Texas City, Texas during his youth under the spiritual leadership of the Rev. Frank Mims Johnson. In addition to being employed for a period of years by Goodwill Industries, John Gay was a professional musician and singer. He was a self-taught artist who entertained audiences to their delight in many cities throughout America. Anyone who knew him well became acquainted with his love of animals of any kind. He was always bringing stray animals home and was disturbed by any form of animal misuse. This compassionate spirit was a trademark of our beloved "Pot". He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Cecil Earl Gay. Those who will forever cherish his memory are his beloved mother, Mrs. Rosie Branch Gay of Marthaville, LA, siblings: Mr. Cleveland Royce Gay (Sarah) of Duncanville, TX; Ms. Barbara Joyce Gay of Marthaville, LA, Mr. Edward T. Gay, Jr. of Dallas, TX; Mr. Larry Gerald Gay of Dallas, TX, Mr. Ronald Wayne Gay of Corona, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
