Obituary


A Celebration of Life Service will take place Saturday, May 25, 2024, 11:00 A. M. in the Winnfield Memorial Chapel, 117 MLK Street, Winnfield, LA 71483 with burial following in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.  The casketed remains will lie in state at the funeral home for public visitation Saturday morning from 9:00 a. m. until service time.

James Editor Brinson Sr. of New Orleans, LA. passed away on May 9th 2024. Mr. Brinson was
born May 7, 1951 in Winnfield, LA; the ninth of ten children born to the union of R. J. Brinson,
Sr. and Cora Lee Swafford. Mr. Brinson was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Velma
Alexander and Sylvia Spratt; four brothers, R. J. Brinson, Jr, Lester Lee Brinson, Isaac Lee
Brinson, and Jeffrey Wade Brinson; one half-brother Chester Brinson and one half-sister Connie
Brinson.

Mr. Brinson joined the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Winnfield, LA. He was very gifted and
talented in the arts, music, and sports. He was a world traveler, and a lover of people and
family. James brought love, laughter, and smiles to many people and places he encountered a
long his journey. He was the family photographer. He never let an event pass without capturing
it with lasting photos.

He was a graduate of Pinecrest High School (Class of 1969) and a graduate of Southern
University in New Orleans (Class of 1981). He worked at the US Army Corps of Engineers and
the United Postal Service (retired from). One of his favorite activities was to fish, which
reminded him of childhood memories with his grandfather.

Mr. Brinson leaves behind a beloved wife; Sandra M. Brinson; one daughter, Chantelle Brinson;
two sons, James E. Brinson Jr. and Jarrett Brinson and one granddaughter, Jahree Brinson. In
addition, Mr. Brinson leaves behind one sister; Thelma Walker, two brothers, Freddie Joe
(Jackie) Brinson, Ardonul Brinson, two half-sisters, Gloria West and Annie Booker; one aunt
Myrtle Swafford; in-laws Marion Wright, Louis Mackey, Cleo Fulton, Bernetta Crockens,
Jeanetta Decou, Catherine (Al) Levy, Dorelia (Rodney) Harrison, and a host of cousins, nieces
and nephews.

A repast will be held at the Pine Ridge Country Club 229 Pine Ridge Dr. Winnfield, La 71483 immediately following the committal service that will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
