Herbert
Simon
August 12, 1920 – October 11, 2017
Herbert Simon was born August 12, 1920 in Natchitoches, LA to the late Charles and Ida Simon. He was the second of five children. He attended school at the Natchitoches Parish Training School where he was Valedictorian of his class. Upon graduation, he was asked to join the staff at the local trade school to teach construction. In 1942, he joined the Army and would serve throughout World War II. Because of his Louisiana/French background, he was assigned to a French unit as a French speaker to soldiers and would spend most of his time in the military in the South Pacific near French colonies. He returned to Natchitoches in 1945 and worked with his father and brothers in construction. They built many homes and businesses in the Natchitoches area. In his later years, he was employed building and replacing advertising billboards in Central Louisiana. He retired in the 1980's and would care for his family and pursue his hobbies. He loved his independence and was proud to keep his driver's license until his death. Herbert had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh…..mostly at himself. He was a very active member of the Holy Name Society at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie Simon, his mother Ida Simon his siblings Charlie III, Raymond, Doris and Joseph Donald.
