Obituary

Life Celebration service will go forth Saturday, April 6, 2024, 11:30 a. m. in the Winnfield Memorial Chapel, 318 North Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457.   Burial will follow in the Montgomery Community Cemetery.  The casketed remains will lie in state Saturday morning from 10:30 to the time of the religious service.

OBITUARY

Ms. Gwendolyn Marie Baldwin was born April 14, 1959 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri to the
late Howard Baldwin and Earlene Coutee-Baldwin. As the fifth child in their bustling family,
Gwen emerged as a loving and generous individual, whose innate gifts would flourish across her
lifespan of 64 years.
As a child, Gwen attended St. Luke A.M.E. Church in Montgomery, Louisiana with her mother
and siblings. It was during this time, her love of Christ was solidified and it would serve as her
compass, as she began her life's journey.
As a student, she enjoyed dancing, gatherings and friends. As a woman of style and flair, her
presence and sense of fashion commanded attention. While, her quick wit and natural
intelligence were assets, which prepared her for a career in the District of Columbia area.
Her battle with physical ailments would ultimately lead to her retirement from the workforce and
her greatest joy as a homemaker and parent to her son for many years. On the evening of March
13, 2024, her earthly life ended and she transitioned to eternal joy.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son: Rex Alexander, III; Shakira (Eldred) Hardison;
three grand- children (D.J., Nick, Alecia); four great grand-children (Harper, Ava, Ace, Olivia);
two sisters Cynthia (Ben) Sands of Enterprise, Alabama; Karen Jemott, Wyandanah, New York;
five brothers Walter Ray Coutee of Tuskegee, Alabama; Harold Baldwin of St. Pedro,
California; Howard Baldwin, II of Lakewood, Washington; DuWayne (Liz) Baldwin of San
Antonio, TX; Darrell Baldwin of Colorado Springs, Colorado: two aunts Patricia Coutee,
Merrillville, Indiana; Rose Coutee, Shreveport, Louisiana; and a host of nieces , nephews,
relatives and other friends.
