A Celebration of Life Service is planned for Saturday, February 8, 2014, 11:30 a. m. at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Bermuda with burial in the church's cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home, 318 North Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457 on Saturday from 8:00 a. m. to 10:45 a. m. just prior to forming of a procession to the church.
Deaconess Gracie Roberson was born in Natchitoches Parish June 8, 1948 as the youngest of eight children to the late Mr. Oprise Helaire, Sr. and Mrs. Orentha Davis Helaire. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mr. Bert M. Roberson, and one brother, Mr. William Helaire.
Knowing that eternal life was an opportunity for the Christian, Sister Gracie Roberson accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at an early age at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her death. Within the realm of her church family she was an integral part of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Board of Ushers, Women's Home Mission Society, Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess Board and recently appointed to serve as one of three Sunday School Superintendents of the New Beulah Baptist Association.
Her education was received at the hands of instructors in the Natchitoches Parish Public School System where she graduated with the fantastic and closely bonded Class of 1967. Being very serious about her Christian walk, she was led to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Divinity from the United Theological Seminary of Monroe, LA in the year of 2006.
On October 17, 1968 Sister Gracie united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Bert M. Roberson and, to this union, three children were born, Michelle R. Holden (Lindsey), Brenda R. Sarpy (Gregory) and Sheree R. McDaniel (James); eight grandchildren, Lindsey III, Angela, Matthew, Takesha, Kevin, Megan, Malorie and Melanie; seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Roberson (Huey), Camille Cook, Ruth LaCaze (Clarence) and Rose Williams (Clyde); two brothers, Oprise Helaire, Jr. and Tommy Helaire (Elcener); three aunts, Roseanna Blake, Willie Mae Robinson and Alma Baptiste; one uncle, Alan Davis; four sisters-in-law, Carolyn Roberson, Lillie Helaire and Mary C. Roberson; two brothers-in-law, Joe L. Roberson, Jr. and Dan P. Roberson along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
