Mrs. Gloria Washington Turner, better known as "Glo" by family and friends, died on June 13, 2017. She was born Gloria Jean Washington to the parents of the late George Washington Sr. and Ester Petite Washington in Natchitoches Parish on August 26,1950. She was the fifth of ten children to that union. Preceding her in death were her parents, siblings: Ethel Washington Phillip, Huey P. Washington, George Washington Jr., and granddaughters Kandis, and Mirrocle Oliphant.

Glo accepted Christ as her savior at an early age with her baptism at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Bermuda, La. under the late Rev. P.M. Gillie where she remained until her passing.

In 1966 she wed the late J.D. Oliphant, Sr., to this union two sons were born: Gregory and Kenneth. Later in life she was remarried.

Glo's chosen profession was as a food service technician, most notably at Weaver Elementary School for the Natchitoches Parish School Board from which she retired. She enjoyed cooking for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her life. However, her true calling was taking care of her family. In a word, she was a matriarch. From helping to raise her sister Ethel's kids upon her untimely passing, caring for her aging grandmother Roselia Petite, caring for her aging parents, helping her siblings at a time of need, and too many other acts of selflessness to list.

Left to mourn her passing, yet to celebrate her life are her beloved sons Gregory Oliphant (Renika), and Kenneth Oliphant (Shannan). Her sister Ethel's youngest kids, Mark and Andre Phillip, who considered her Mama. Grandchildren: Jeremiah (Sherita), Andrea, Brianne, Keenahn, Raven, Donte, Nycolas, Chelsea, Jaizha, Felicia, Gregory II, and Ashton. Great grandchildren: Sydney, Londyn, Katie, Marshae, Kylie, Zaria, and Jet. Siblings: Willie Washington (Carolyn), Helen Freemont (Bill), Rose Palmer (Ceal) all of Houston, TX. Dorothy Perry and Lucille Washington (James) all of Natchitoches, LA. Godchild Tameka Hicks-Adams of Houston, TX. And, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
