Her Life Story

November 11, 2023 around 9:30am at The Courtyard Nursing Facility in Natchitoches, LA. I, Ethel Lee Telsee, took off mortality and put on immortality. (my God, my God, my God)

Ethel Lee was born August 2, 1937 to the late Levi Rogers and Lucille Harris Rogers in Campti, Louisiana. She is one of two children. Her sister, Bethena Brazier preceded her in death on February 13, 2023.

After graduating from Natchitoches Parish Training School in 1957, she married the late David Telsee Jr. in 1958. She was a school bus attendant with her husband until they retired due to David's declining health. Ethel Lee loved God and was a walking and living example of Jesus Christ. She was a long-term member of St. Titus Baptist Church. For years she continued her father's tradition of ensuring the church was clean, heated in the winter and cool in the summer. She was the church's Secretary for over 40 years and held that position until she felt it was best to transition it to the next generation. She was an avid reader of the Bible. You would see her reading her Bible or next week's Sunday School lesson no matter the day of the week. She could be heard singing songs from hymnals such as Father, I stretch my hand to Thee, to contemporary gospel songs like Your Grace and Mercy and You Know My Name. It didn't matter if she was in Louisiana or Georgia, one thing was consistent, you will find her in one of her favorite places, church.

She was lovingly called Madea, Teedie, Aunt Ethel Lee, and Sista. Ethel Lee was defined by her big hugs and infectious smiles and laughter. She left everyone she touched feeling better just because they were in her presence. She was the definition of love.

She leaves to cherish her memories 3 children: Florence Cotton (James) of Campti, LA, Daphanie Coleman (Ronnell) of Savannah, GA, and David Telsee III (Erica) of Shreveport, LA; 12 grandchildren, James Jr, Roshonda, Lenadia, Davina, Ashley, Ro'Lesha, Jamie, Daviion, Ronnell Jr, Ethan, Jalan and Jakalah; 6 great grandchildren Destinee, Solomon, Xane, Jayce, Josiah, and Amaree; and 1 great- great grandson Chance.

Two Sister-in laws, Eura Williams and Lille Telsee, one aunt, Frankie Edwards, 2 Godchildren, Monica Hayes and Sajend Brazier, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
