Obituary

Of

Our beloved Edward Clinton Thompson

There are some people who everybody knows, respects and fondly regards especially in a small town like Natchitoches, LA.  Edward Clinton Thompson (referred to by family members as Bubba and by the townspeople as "JJ") was surely one of them.  This one-of-a kind son, brother,  father, uncle, friend, gifted artist and pool shark extraordinaire) will be greatly missed from the Natchitoches landscape.  His birth to the late Mr. Clyde Thompson and Mrs. Inez Harris Thompson in Natchitoches, LA January 26, 1954 marked a special day in his family's growth.  God, in His infinite wisdom, gently lifted him from time to eternity October 23, 2023 while under the care of medical professionals at the Courtyard Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.  "JJ" will be greatly missed by so many!

Known as a creative and highly skilled artist, this unique young man exceeded expectations in terms of his legacy in artistic renderings in the form of oil paintings and pencil sketches to the delight of his family, friends, classmates and the general public.  He graduated from Natchitoches-Central High School in the Class of 1973.  His efforts in the world of work lead him to a record of twenty-five years of employment with Con-Agra Poultry Company from which he retired. He then worked an additional 13 years at the Shell Station on Washington Street.

JJ will be remembered for exemplifying Christian values in his everyday life.  His friendly smile, his gentle spirit, his concern for his fellowman and his never meeting a stranger were landmarks of his character.  He enjoyed a record of being one of the Kings of the Pool Table where he had a reputation of being difficult and sometimes impossible to beat.  JJ was a force to be reckoned with when you racked them up!  JJ's celebrated artistic accomplishments was enhanced by his creation of murals for several local businesses.  Additionally, he was a fashion fair in his own right with his highly individualized sense of wearing apparel reflecting exact coordination from the crown of his head to the sole of his feet.  In fact, if he could not find shoes in his outfits' color palette, he would masterfully paint those shoes to match and they looked as if he bought them that color.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Thompson; sisters:  Luzenia "Zenia" Berryman and Nettie "Dot" Thompson; nephews:  Horace "Sonny" Berryman and Mike Berryman.

His unmatched pleasant spirit will live on in the hearts of those who survive him including his three children:  Veada Benjamin, Ashley Benjamin and Quentin Smith all of Natchitoches, LA; grandchildren:  Daylon, Zion, Zecarious, Jayden, Jacory, Zaliyah and Journee all of Natchitoches, LA: a sister, Gloria Jones (Ray) of Natchitoches, LA, a niece who was like a sister, Kathryn Ross (Shelton) of Natchitoches, LA; nephews, Sean Berryman (Lashonda) of Natchitoches, LA and Carlos Lewis of Houston, TX; a God Sister, Necey Brew (Chris) of Natchitoches, LA along with many great and great great nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
