1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Psalm 23:1-6 (KJV)

On August 3, 1939, Siggie Silvie held his firstborn son for the first time. Siggie and Mary Jane Waldrup Silvie, named their baby boy Edgar Earl. Edgar would forever maintain that position in this family as he became the big brother to ten other siblings, including two infants who died at birth.

The early years of Edgar's rearing were under the nurturing and Christian teachings of his parents. He also enjoyed learning, playing, working and studying with his brothers and sisters. Edgar confessed Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age at the Mount Sinai Baptist Church and was baptized in the Perot Pond in Campti, Louisiana. He remained faithful to God until He called him home. A pre-teen illness would gradually impair his ability to walk, but he did not let that hinder his participating in the many things his siblings and schoolmates did together. He attended Campti Junior High School and Central High School in Natchitoches.

Brother Silvie was a compassionate and loving brother, church member and community citizen. Perhaps Edgar's greatest enjoyment was his keeping in constant contact with the citizens of his community, particularly the elderly and sick and shut ins by visiting with them on the telephone daily. He could be heard talking with them throughout the day and reporting to others on their condition; this "checking up" on them became his ministry.

Edgar passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Natchitoches Community Care Center. He is preceded in death by his parents, Siggie and Mary Jane, his infant brother and sister, Jessie and Hattie Silvie, his beloved nephews and niece Terome Silvie, Timothy Lopez and Icarion and Ikerion Bradford.

Recognizing what a great love one and friend they had in Edgar and at the same time thanking God for the role he played in their lives are his five brothers: Richard Lane and Ann of Clarence, Louisiana; Siggie Jr. and Clara of Campti, Louisiana; Cladis James and Sarah of Long Beach, California; Al Dennis of Campti, Louisiana; Robert Lloyd and JoAnn of Shreveport, Louisiana. His three sisters: Janice Marie and Oscar Sibley of Natchitoches, Louisiana; Daisy Silvie of Campti, Louisiana; and Christine and LeeOtis Sibley of Coushatta, Louisiana; and his sixty-nine nieces and nephews.

Also left to cherish his memory are his first cousins, god-children and a host of other relatives and friends.
