Celebration of Life and Legacy of Mr. Mallard will go forth in the Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 318 North Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457 Saturday, March 14, 2020, 2:00 p. m. with interment following in the Shady Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. The casketed remains will lie in state at the funeral home for public visitation prior to the service from the morning hours until service time. Elder Kelvin Washington, Pastor of the Mallard Hill Church of God in Christ will officiate at the service under the direction of Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home.
Obituary of Deacon Eardis Mallard
Deacon Eardis Mallard was born on June 25, 1933 to the late Lucille Scarborough Mallard and the late Emmitt Mallard in Natchitoches Parish. He received his early education in the Shady Grove Community. He attended high school at Central High School in Natchitoches, LA where he as an excellent basketball player. He was called to serve in the United States Army before the completion of high school. Upon completion of the two years in the military he was determine to finish high school. He graduated from Central High School in 1957. In addition, he was interested in a career in Radio and Television. In 1957 he completed training in Radio and Television repair. Due to a gift with technological skills his trade was a success. Deacon Mallard was employed in his chosen career until his retirement.
In 1975 he received the gospel of Jesus Christ, was saved, baptized, and received the gift of the Holy Spirit. He became an active member at his childhood church, Mallard High Church of God and Christ under the leadership of the late Elder Roosevelt Harris, Sr. Deacon Mallard was a lover of the word of God and the music and songs that was uplifting to the church. The musical instrument that he played was a guitar. He was often affectionately called "The Guitar Man". His favorite songs were "God Got a Hook in Me, I don't want to turn loose" and "Two Wings". He served as a deacon and a Sunday School Superintendent until he became ill.
Eardis married his high school sweetheart, Gladys Lockett in 1957. From this union, they were blessed with three sons.
Deacon Mallard at age 86 years old peacefully passed on at his residence on March 4, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille Scarborough Mallard and Emmitt Mallard; his brothers Sammy Mallard, Earnest Mallard and Fletcher Mallard; his sister Bertha Conley, Maxie B. Glover(Twin), Maxie Lee Wilson and Earnestine Mallard.
Mourning his departure but cherishing the memories are his devoted wife, Gladys Mallard; his three sons Jerry Mallard of Phoenix, AZ, Rondy Mallard(Mary) of Shady Glove, and Paul Mallard of Robeline, LA; sister Earline Randle of LaMarque, TX; grandchildren Rondra Hebert, Shonra Mallard, Shardonda Mallard, Kimberly Deville(Thaddeus), Jennifer Mallard and Mersedez Mallard Prince; grandsons Carlos Johnson, Anthony Mallard and Rondy Mallard, Jr.; great grandchildren Jayden Fernandez, Carmella Johnson, Aiden Deville, LaTianna Deville, Sha'Niya, Josioth and Emileigh Hebert; three sister in laws Irma Mallard of Houston, TX, Louise Johnson of Fort Washington, Marylan, and Lela Lockett of Shreveport, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Deacon Mallard will be greatly missed but we will meet again in our heavenly home.
