Obituary

A religious service celebrating the life and legacy of Deacon Helaire will go forth at the St. Paul Baptist Church in the Bermuda Community Saturday, November 2, 2024, 11:00 a. m.  The casketed remains will lie in state for public visitation at the funeral home from 9:00 a. m. to 10:00 a. m.  The family will then form a procession to the church at 10:15 a. m. promptly.  Burial will follow the service in the church's cemetery.

Deacon Melvin Helaire

January 9, 1941 -October 27, 2024

Mr. Melvin Helaire was born on January 9, 1941, in Bermuda, Louisiana. In 1961, he united in marriage with the love of his life, Mrs. Joyce Condet Helaire, and they shared a cherished partnership for sixty-three years. Mr. Helaire was known for his strong will, unwavering determination, and deep love and support for his family. Together with his wife, he was a devoted member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Bermuda, where he served as a deacon and usher, embodying his commitment to faith and community.


Mr. Helaire had a dedicated career with Goodyear Tires and Rubber, where he worked for thirty-eight years. He began as a salesman and later earned a promotion to store manager, demonstrating his strong work ethic and leadership skills throughout his time with the company. His commitment to excellence and customer service made a lasting impact in his field.


Mr. Helaire was the son of Mr. Frank Helaire Jr. and Mrs. Carrie Wardsworth Helaire, both of whom preceded him in death. Their legacy lived on through the values he upheld and the strong family bonds he cherished throughout his life. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, James Helaire and J.C. Helaire. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Ms. Elvin Charles, underscoring the deep family connections that were a significant part of his journey.


Mr. Melvin Helaire and Mrs.Joyce C.Helaire had four children: Nathaniel, Janet, Ronnie (Sharon), and Tenona. Their family continued to grow, with seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, creating a rich legacy of love and connection that will be cherished for generations to come.
