Obituary

Life Celebration Services will go forth in Winnfield, LA at the New Zion Baptist Church, Saturday, November 18, 2023, Noon with burial following in the Winnfield Cemetery off Highway 167.  The family will receive friends at the Winnfield Memorial Funeral Home, 117 MLK Drive from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.

James Edward Evans was born January 26, 1952 in Boyce, Louisiana to Gladys and Dempsey Evans. He was the 7th of 16 children born to this union

James Edward, also known as "Nubby' by family and friends in the Boyce area accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Boyce, LA. He was a devoted and loyal church member. He later became a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. James was a graduate from Wettermark High School class of 1970. He pursued a career in electricity as a licensed electrician. He worked as an electrician for the Town of Boyce. After which, he moved to Winnfield, LA. He worked for the City of Winnfield Electric Department for 36 years and retired. He was the first black superintendent of the City of Winnfield Electric Department.

While in Winfield he found the love of his life, Carolyn Richard Evans. He knew the bible said when a man found a wife, he founded a good thing and obtained favor with God. James and Carolyn were wed in holy matrimony on May 31, 1997. Through sickness and in health they were married 26 years until death did them apart. James enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, spoiling his grandkids. mowing, doing electrical work and helping any one he could in any manner he could

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Evans, father, Dempsey Evans, two sisters: Mary Louise Kelly. Geneva Davis, one Brother Milton Evans, son-in-law. Freddie Smith and his granddaughter, Caroline Meadors.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 26 years, Carolyn Evans; seven daughters: Constance (James) Meadors, Rokeeta (Kenneth) Brown, LaCritia (Freddie) Evans-Smith, Kimberly Rosenthal, Kianna Smith, Keidra Smith, Jasmine Smith: two sons: Micheal D. HalL Keddrick Smith; four sister in law: Royline Collins, Cheri Jackson, Angie Wilson, Debra (Keith\ Curry. Claudia Evans: six brothers; Steve (Essie) Evans, Terry (Carolyn) Evans, Jack (Dorothy) Evans. Marvin (LaDonna) Evans. David Ransberry, Micheal Brew; eight sisters: Jeanetta Johnson, Bernice McCoy. Francis Evans, Gwendolyn Johnson, Emma Evans. Anna (Larry) Jones, Margaret Sweazie, Cathy Jones: six spoiled grandchildren: William Richard, John Meadors, Jacob Meadors.Molly Smith, Kenneth James Richard, Roman Richard: Goddaughter Donterica Triplet, Alexis (Earl) Tucker, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins. aunts. uncles, friends and coworkers.
